Cara Meminta dan Memberikan Izin

Ada beberapa ungkapan yang bisa digunakan untuk meminta izin, antara lain:

• Can I ...?
• Is it all right if I ...?
• May I ...?
• Do you mind if I ...?
• I wonder if I coould ...?
• Would you mind if I ...ed?

Ungkapan mengizinkan

• Sure.
• Yes. 
• Certainly.
• No, go ahead.
• By all means.
• Not at all.

Ungkapan menolak permintaan izin

• Sorry but ...
• I'd rather you didn't.
• I'm sorry, but ...
• I'd rather you didn't.
• I'm very sorry, but ...
• Well actually I'd rather you didn't.

Contoh

A :  Can I borrow your pen.
B :  Sure. Here you are.

M :  Do you mind if I smoke?
N : I'd rather you didn't.

H :  I wonder if I could borrow your cell phone?
I  :  By all means. Go ahead.

S :  Would you mind if I opened the door?
T :  Well actually I'd rather you didn't. I've got a cold.
