Descriptive Text

Pengertian

Descriptive text adalah teks yang mendeskripsikan seseorang, suatu benda dan tempat tertentu. 

Ciri-ciri Teks Descriptive

Adapun ciri-cirinya adalah:

• Menggunakan noun tertentu, misalnya my home.
• Menggunakan the simple present tense, misalnya My family and I live in a four-room flat.
• Menggunakan detailed noun phrases untuk memberikan informasi tentang subjek, misalnya a pretty centerpiece made of seashells, an antique table under a landscape painting.
• Menggunakan berbagai macam adjectives yang bersifat describing, numbering, classifying, misalnya temporary relief, a pretty centerpiece, an antique table, a keen gardener, a low cupboard.
• Menggunakan relating verbs untuk memberikan informasi tentang subjek, misalnya it is not very big, it is cosy and quiet.
• Menggunakan thinking verbs dan feeling verbs untuk mengungkapkan pandangan pribadi penulis tentang subjek, misalnya we are proud of it.
• Menggunakan action verbs, misalnya live, find, enjoy, step, see.
• Menggunakan adverbials untuk memberikan informasi tambahan, misalnya near the door.
• Menggunakan bahasa figurative, seperti simile dan metaphor, misalnya The girl is white as chalk.

Struktur Teks Descriptive

Teks descriptive terdiri dari dua bagian, yaitu Identification dan Description. Identification yaitu pengenalan subjek, sedangkan description adalah ciri-ciri subjek, misalnya penampilan fisik, kualitas, perilaku umum atau sifat-sifatnya.

Berikut adalah contoh teks descriptive:

My Home

My family and I live in a four-room flat. It is only ten minutes walk from my school.

The flat is not very big. It is cozy and quiet. It is a sanctuary where we can relax and find our own space. In our home, we enjoy temporary relief from the pressure of office and school.

The moment we sleep into the flat, we will be struck by a pretty centerpiece made of seashells. It is place on an antique table under a landscape painting.

There are pots of indoor plants placed near the door. The trophies collected by the children are displayed in a low cupboard.

The bedrooms are painted in pastel shades to set a relaxing mood. Curtains and cushion covers bedspreads and cabinets are kept to these tones.

That is our house. Although some people give our home a second glance, we are proud of it.
