Conjunction | Kata Hubung

Kata hubung digunakan untuk menggabungkan sejumlah kata atau klausa (bisa dua, tiga atau lebih).

Jenis-jenis kata penghubung adalah:

1. and, but, either... or ..., both .... and ..., neither ... nor ...

Kata hubung tersebut diatas digunakan untuk menggabungkan dua kata atau klausa yang setara, misalnya noun dengan noun, verb dengan verb, adjective dengan adjective, klausa dengan klausa dan seterusnya.

Contoh:

• Jojon and Beny went to Jakarta yesterday.

• Devina was clever, but Priscila was slow in her studies.

• Both Juna and Nanda will go to the cinema tomorrow.

• We can go either to the mall or to the market.

• Neither my sister nor I know how to cook rice.

2. after, before, since, untill, till, when, while, since

Kata-kata tersebut menggabungkan dua klausa yang mempunyai hubungan waktu atau urutan kejadian. Kata-kata ini mengacu pada keterangan waktu.

Contoh:

• I go to school after my mother has finished cooking.

• She must take the final exam before she goes to university.

• I have worked for the company since I was 25.

3. as, so, because, since

Kata-kata tersebut menghubungkan dua klausa yang menunjukkan hubungan sebab akibat.

Contoh:

• I can’t do the test because I never study.

• Since you are the best student at school, you are appointed to join the competition.

• Billy won the prize as he got the highest scores.
